Photography Challenge What?

This is pretty lame to admit, and apologies to all my friends who participated and my readers, but I could not at all follow through with the October Photography Challenge. I started out with guns blazing, but I got pretty stumped on the perspective week, and once I fell out of it, I just couldn’t get back in.

I think I have found out a few things about how I relate to photography last month. So here we go:

  1. I like pictures, I really do. I just don’t think I’m the best at taking them. And I know the point was to practice my photography skills, but that takes me to my next point.
  2. The iPhone and Instagram are very cool tools, but not the best devices for good photography. I have a point-and-shoot, which I really like, but I don’t always have it with me, so I lose a lot of opportunities for decent shots that way.
  3. Being away from home was challenging, but I made it work for the first week, but when it came to many later prompts, I thought of something I could photograph at home, but I wouldn’t be home to do so.
  4. Since my main medium of participating was Instagram, I wanted to really think of what photos to take and/or use, because that photo would go onto Instagram for people to follow. I didn’t want to share something that wasn’t very good or not well thought-out. Even now, I always think twice before taking a picture and putting it on Instagram.

So, yeah, I totally fell off the boat on this one. But, I’m hoping I can participate in another month long photo challenge in the coming year. I just wish I could have finished this one because so many of my Bee friends participated and it’s fun to share stuff with them. There’s always next year, isn’t there?

  1. I tend to think of Instagram as a way to let go and be less choosy, but I take photos all the time for work so I guess it’s easy to consider it more ‘fun’ than my real camera!

Fat Mum Slim has monthly photo challenges that are enjoyable. I did a few before the wedding took over and even if I didn’t manage to take photos every day I still really liked the prompts.
