Write that thank you note that you’ve been meaning to send this year… or would like to send next year…
Today’s my mom’s birthday, and it’s not only today, but every day, that I want to thank my parents. I’ve never doubted for a second that my parents live for giving. It’s always about me, my sister, their siblings, nieces, nephews, friends, etc. I literally have to be careful about complimenting my mother’s clothes because she will offer to give them to me!
So, thank you, Mommy and Daddy, for working so hard for us. Thank you for welcoming E and his family into ours. Thank you for teaching me to enjoy family and to give wholeheartedly. It truly does feel better to give than to receive. Thank you for reading to me, and always letting me read when I wanted to, even if that meant there were books everywhere. Thank you for my sister and teaching me how to love and care for someone else. Thank you for teaching me the definition of passion. And thank you for giving me a fair amount of independence growing up. I know how to walk on my own, but I also know when I need you. Thank you for teaching me that even when times are difficult, you get up and move on, instead of giving up.
Thank you for putting so much effort into our Bengali wedding. And thank you for inviting everyone to be with us for those two weeks. It was special for me to see how much you mean to everyone in our family and our community. Thank you for giving me heritages and languages to be proud of. Thank you for accepting that I am different than what you expected me to be.
And thank you for always being my love and support system. I don’t know that I’ll ever get to thank you enough. And Happy Birthday, Mommy. I love you both, always.
