I know what you’re going to say: “Ayesha, this is not an underrated book. It says ‘#1 New York Times Bestseller’ right on the cover!” Yes, this is a stretch, but I have my reasons. I read this book a long time ago, maybe the year it came out, 2007, or shortly after. At that time, very few people had read it, and there wasn’t a ton of buzz about it. Three years later, I was working at the bookstore. And which book was I recommending to everyone, including my coworkers? Water for Elephants. I was so surprised at how few people had read it, because it’s wonderful. A few months later, the film came out, and people came in to ask for it. It made it back on to the Bestsellers list, but for once, I didn’t mind being the driver of the band wagon. I want everyone to read this book. It’s just so good.

Have you been a fan of an underrated book?
