Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov

I couldn’t even finish it. I realize that I am ruining my literary street cred by hating it. I know it’s all symbolism and a dream or hallucination, but it’s awful. And I guess Nabokov succeeded in making me feel uncomfortable. But blah, no. It just upset me.

Any books that you just hated?

  1. It’s funny you didn’t like this one because this was my favorite book by a Russian author. Granted, this brings me to my second comment: To answer your question, I generally dislike Russian literature. Most notably, I hated One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich as well as Crime and Punishment. However, Lolita was the one novel I actually enjoyed (perhaps not the right word, but I’m failing to think of another) reading.
